M&A

Wales December 2024 Day 8 - Our M&A inspired holiday is coming to it’s end…..!

We’re leaving today and have to vacate Yr Hafdy at 10am so as we’ve got quite a lot to get done we’ve decided to sacrifice our morning yoga.  Of course we can always do it when we arrive home if we so wish!

Winston decided he loved me best and spent the night on my bed although I’m sure he’s got a sixth sense and knew it would be our last night together. I would like to say he was curled up on my bed taking up as little space as possible, but no, this is Sir Winston and he likes to stretch his small body out as far as possible and as wide as possible down the middle of the bed so that no-one can move. I therefore spent an uncomfortable night in the one position lying on my back. I couldn’t even turn over in fear of waking the sleeping beauty!

We woke at seven and did a bit of our morning admin, because as you know, there’s always admin to be done, even on holiday, then looked at the time and sprung into action.  We let Winston have ten minutes play time with his wobble wibble giggle ball then we stripped the beds, we wiped down all the surfaces, we packed up all our belongings, we packed up all of Winston’s ‘stuff’, we packed up what was left of the food and wine….there was at least five full bottles of wine left to take home, and whilst Maice was busy packing up the car the hoover made an appearance. Honestly you could have eaten breakfast off the floor it was that spotless. We didn’t of course and had a lovely M&A inspired breakfast using all the leftovers from the fridge.

I was driving us home today due to the fact that we’d taken out car insurance for me and we wanted to make sure we’d get our moneys worth. Maice was navigating together with the satnav map-app….oh dear, enough said! With the car all piled high, me in the drivers seat and Maice just about to get into the passenger seat she suddenly exclaimed ‘where’s Winston’? Well, indeed, where was he? He wasn’t in his travel seat in the car and he didn’t seem to be outside….had we locked him in the bungalow not realising he was still inside? After calling him for some considerable time Winston appeared, nonchalantly sauntering towards the car without a care in the world. He’d obviously been on a little adventure but now he was back he was bustled into his car seat and that was it, we were off. Well, it wasn’t quite that simple due to me having to get used to driving a manual car. After some crunching of brakes, revving of the engine, trying to get into gear and trying to reverse out of the road, we kangaroo jumped down to the main road.  Give me five minutes and all will be well.  By the time we’d driven through the Mumbles Winston was fast asleep, probably thankful that we were headed home and he wouldn’t have to walk his daily 10,000 steps!

Everything was going so well, until we tried to leave Swansea. Maice, who as we know was in charge of navigating got very confused with her ‘yards’ and subsequently didn’t give me enough notice to make a manoeuvre and take the slip road so we ended up going out of our way,  driving around multiple roundabouts, through numerous traffic lights and taking an illegal u-turn in order to get back on track.  The rest of the journey thankfully went without incident. We stopped off at the service station before the Prince of Wales bridge to fill up on gas, we all needed a wee stop and to purchase a much needed take-away cappuccino to get us through the rest of the journey.

On the journey back we reminisced about our holiday and all the things we’d done. All three of us have had a lovely time here in Wales and we’d definitely recommend the Mumbles as a destination as there’s so much to see and do.  There’s lots of local walks or you can take the car further along the Gower coast to some amazing beaches. We’ve had some lovely walks even with sock-gate! On one of our walks to Caswell Bay Maice experienced a very irritating issue with her trainer socks in that everytime we walked uphill her socks slipped down to her toes and every time she pulled them back up we’d go up another hill and they’d fall down again. So like with Winston when we have to stop for him to have his ‘sniffs’ or wees, we had to keep stopping for Maice to sort her socks out. Whatever was going on with her socks that day we’ll never know but it’s all very strange. Ah well it’s an excuse for new socks to be purchased!

We also loved the Mumbles town which has a really nice vibe about it and in particular all three of us enjoyed spending time at the Gin & Juice bar. It’s such a shame we don’t have one in Dorchester or Weymouth as we’re sure it would be well patronised. We’re also surprised that neither of us have suffered with the lurgy on this holiday. Maice came very close to having a full blown cold and sore throat but thankfully managed to stave it off, so all three of us have managed to stay healthy throughout our holiday. Must be all the yoga and all those tens of thousands of steps we’ve walked.  We didn’t even succumb to the mizzly, drizzly, foggy cold weather which didn’t put us off because we had come prepared and dressed for the inclement weather.

We did notice that a lot of our photos have been photo-bombed by the Christmas Elf. Honestly, he seems to have gotten everywhere….in the car, on our walks, in the Gin & Juice bar and the strange thing is, we never saw him! What a mischievous elf he was.

So that’s our holiday in a nut-shell. It’s been great. It’s been relaxing. We’ve laughed a lot. We’ve walked a lot and even though the weather has had it’s moments we just went with the flow and laughed through each day. So, what were our stand out moments? Well, in no particular order ….a) Winston’s delight at his wobble wiggle gag ball and seeing him zooming around the bungalow totally engrossed in the moment b) finding the Gin & Juice bar and enjoying our festive cocktails and c) cooking our M&A inspired breakfasts and suppers and even though we encountered a catastrophe of epic proportions we managed to save our Christmas dinner.

This was no ordinary holiday to the Mumbles, this was an M&A inspired holiday to the Mumbles and as always a wonderful time was had by all.

Hwyl fawr and see you in Cornwall
